A Mustang Journey Home: From Krosno to Breda
For Alex and his friend Theo, collecting Alex’s new SW-51 in Krosno was not simply a handover – it was the beginning of a very personal adventure.
After training with the ScaleWings team, they pointed the nose west and set off on the roughly 1,250-kilometre journey home to Breda, Netherlands. Crossing Europe in their own Mustang was a moment neither of them will forget.
The new larger propeller delivered impressive take-off and climb performance, while the auxiliary fuel tanks gave them the freedom to enjoy the route and scenery without rushing. Together with the Platinum Package and IFR capability, “Red Ruby” felt every bit the capable travelling aircraft it was built to be.
When Alex and Theo arrived in Breda, friends, fellow pilots and enthusiastic spectators were waiting to welcome them home. A proud first arrival – and the start of many more Mustang adventures to come.
Our New Website Has Launched
The ScaleWings team is thrilled to announce our next-generation corporate website. Like the SW-51, the website has evolved dramatically over the course of the past 18 months. Fans of the brand will enjoy a feature-rich experience with amazing photography, subtle aviation-themed queues and graphics, and a bold look that captures the essence and allure of the Mustang.

Next Opportunities to See the SW-51 MUSTANG
It’s July and the faint scent of aviation fuel in the air and distant sound of warbirds forming up turns our thoughts toward EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, July 20-25 – the biggest aviation event in the world. Mustang enthusiasts should plan to visit the ScaleWings team at the Rotax display #265 and take a selfie with the
SW-51 and its recently announced larger prop.
For those unable to make the trek to Oshkosh from the west of the Rockies, the ScaleWings team will be displaying the SW-51 a bit closer to home at two more US Aircraft Expo events later this year. Fighter Facts
While the original P-51 prototype was created in just 102 days using nothing more than a slide rule, determination, and genius, its enduring Mustang design was revisited 40 years later by the Air Force as the basis of a more modern turboprop known as the Piper Enforcer.
“The Piper PA-48 was part of a series of aircraft [that] were designed for counter-insurgency. These were aircraft that the U.S. government would eventually sell to other smaller foreign nations,” said Air Force Flight Test Museum curator, George Welsh. “They were initially developed off the P-51 Mustang, and the Enforcers were an end of a series of aircraft. Only two airframes were produced and tested.”
